Quality Education For Underprivileged Children In China
Oliver Ye Yang
DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL
The Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation is a public welfare foundation established in 1986 by the China Welfare Institute founded by Mme. Soong Ching Ling herself. Since its inception, the Foundation has consistently adhered to Mme. Soong’s care for public welfare and has implemented projects and activities in education, culture, health and medicine and other socially sustainable fields to the benefit of needy people. With a professional management and executive team, the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation is an organization of high efficiency, standardization and transparency. With particular attention to the welfare of women and children, the Foundation has set up a large number of projects in the fields of maternal and child health care and aid to children’s education and culture in China’s major cities, provinces and autonomous regions. Along with social changes in China, SSCLF has also developed an international vision and has extended its advantages to conduct international cooperation and exchange projects. In cooperating with various other fields, SSCLF is dedicated to have Mme. Soong’s loving causes benefit more people and help promote the development of the society as a whole.
We are devoted to improving the lives of underprivileged women, children and other people in need of help and to promote a balanced development of society through the funding and implementation of sustainable projects in education, culture and healthcare. The most popular and needed areas are education, healthcare and aging society. Recent research revealed that in China since it is such a rapidly developing country, social engagement opportunities exist in both urban and rural areas.
Two years living and studying in Belgium inspired me to start a career in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. I feel that as an individual, I have very limited capacity to create value for the society. However, by promoting and engaging in social responsibility, I’m able to create synergies among multiple stakeholders, thus creating a bigger impact. With my years of project management experience, constraints are always an essential part of my consideration. However, if resources were unlimited, I would always choose “education” as the most powerful tool to engage in social challenges.
